Obama Propaganda Video is Pretty Scary

So this morning I heard about this "pledge" video that was circulating the internet. I have tried to do a little digging into what this was to be used for and from what I understand it has something to do with September 8th and this video being shown in schools.

Regardless of when, where, or how this is shown, this is some pretty blatant propaganda. I remember in college watching translations of Chinese propaganda under Mao and how I never understood how people fell for it. And although I am not comparing Obama to Mao I must say that I cannot believe that we as American citizens subscribe to something as blatantly obvious as this video.

What maybe is even more disheartening is that everyone in this video is an actor/actress and yet we are supposed to pledge along them? Aren't these people the same people who are paid to say what they are told to repeat lines that are already written for them? I love movies and television but I am not a big fan of when they leave my TV and enter politics.

The Inauguration of Barack Obama

In my lifetime I have never seen such anticipation for a political event as the inauguration and address of Barack Obama. I for one did not vote for Obama, nor do I agree with a lot of what he stands for, but I to was eager to see how today was going to go. Having to work today made it a bit more difficult to watch but never the less we were allowed to stream the address to our computers, and that is exactly what I did. I think the whole process of having one president leave and another take office is really intriguing. I mean the fluid transition of power is really remarkable and is always thrilling to watch each and every time it happens.

Was anyone else a bit underwhelmed by his speech? I know I was expecting it to be one of his best and I would say it was more of the middle of the road. He stumbled big time when taking the oath which was kind of awkward and his speech to me was a let down. I was expecting some major one liners that would be echoed through the history books but there was nothing like that today. My streaming solution to not having a TV at work worked out for a little while but about every few minutes I would loose connection which was kind of a bummer. All in all it was not all as inspirational or as emotional as I thought it would be.

Regardless of what I thought of his speech, his policies, or anything else, I am proud to be able to say I was alive to see the first African American President of the United States.

For anyone who missed the speech I have provided it below.

A Cartoon Look at the Current World Economy

I was doing a recent search through Digg.com and one of the top stories was of this political cartoon on our current world economy. I am not going to give my opinion on the current economic status of our country and our world, but I thought this cartoon was both witty and comical.

Get Out And Vote!!!!!

Today is election day. Can you believe it has finally arrived? Any Ralph Nader fans? Just kidding. So I just wanted to make sure I got this out here, go vote! It is really important if not for the presidential race for the propositions and your local voting. Out here in California people are really up in arms about Prop 8 which is Gay Marriage. As many of you have probably guessed I am voting Yes on Prop 8 which would stop gay marriage here in California. I do realize the uproar that is going to follow the result of this proposition, so it should be an interesting time.

Does anyone think Obama won't be our next president? Well I have always planned on voting for John McCain since we were given these final two candidates. I was a big fan of Mike Huckabee, but obviously he had no chance, so now we are kind of forced with John McCain. I am not expecting a miracle, I just have never really understood the appeal of Obama. But I guess we better all get ready for it, its going to happen very very soon.

I wish John McCain did interviews like this with Chris Berman because I actually felt like I connected with him. The best quote was "He Could Go All the Way to the White House" and then jumped in with a "That's why we play the game". Good solid short and sweet interview. Here it is on YouTube.

Alright everyone I am not telling anyone who to vote for, but please go out and vote!

Put Yourself in JibJab

So I decided that I would spend the day today sitting in front of the TV watching football. But during times like half time or slow portions of a game I decided to go around the internet and see what is new. The two conventions have been the big news recently and that reminded me of JibJab.com which was huge during the 04 Presidential Election. So I put myself in their latest political parody and although I probably should have worked harder on making my face fit better it worked nonetheless. Here is the very funny video.

Barack Obama on YouTube

So I am going to be really late on both of these YouTube videos on Barack Obama but then again I don't surf youtube all that often so its always fun when I get around to it. I am not a supporter of Obama nor McCain. Just to give you a short background on my political stance I normally vote republican but I am not a big fan of John McCain at all, I voted for Mike Huckabee in the California Primary. With that being said I have to hand it to the Obama side of things, they sure are using the internet to their advantage. Here are two videos made by what I would think to be Obama supporters. The first is just a silly insert of Barack Obama into the great movie of Back to the Future and the other is Obama in Rocky, enjoy!

Hillary Clinton Comparing Herself to Rocky

I am not a fan of Hillary Clinton, she rubs me the wrong way. I am not sure who I like out of any of the candidates, but something bothers me about her. Things got worse with that feeling when she recently compared herself to my favorite movie character of all time Rocky Balboa. To give you an idea, Rocky is the only movie franchise that I proudly own the box set of and with that "constantly" go back and watch. I own other Box Sets but none are watched as much as Rocky. Secondly when I heard about Rocky Balboa (the recent movie) I skipped work to see it on opening day. When I watched this clip of Hillary comparing herself to Rocky I wanted to cry.

Rocky has got enough on its own to make it a topic of jokes. We all have seen the many spoofs of the movies with old men in walkers boxing, and of course countless movies have used its theme song, but nothing has infuriated me more then Hillary Clinton comparing herself to Rocky. Here is the video of her comparison.

The video cannot be shown at the moment. Please try again later.

Does she bother you as much as she bothers me? I watch this video and I just don't understand any appeal in her. I can't stand the fact that she used Rocky to compare herself to. And even with all my love for Rocky, would a presidential candidate really want to compare herself to a character who got hit in the head a few to many times, and whose intelligence isn't firing on all cylinders? Just a thought.

As much as I thought of this as being just a witty post, Obama I suppose wasn't going to let this comparison go without a response. Obama was quoted as saying in response to Hillary comparing herself to Rocky:

“There’s been some talk about Rocky Balboa over the last couple days. And you know we all love Rocky,” Obama told the labor leaders.

“But we got to remember Rocky was a movie,” Obama continued. “And so is the idea that someone can fight for working people and at the same time, embrace the broken system Washington, where corporate lobbyists use their clout to shape laws to their liking.”

I am sure we will hear more from Rocky's theme song during Hillary's campaign in Pennsylvania, but I doubt we hear of any more comparisons. I hope Hillary remembers that Rocky looses in his first and last fight?

Smart Viral Video: Yes We Can, Barack Obama

I can't say I will be voting for Senator Obama, in fact I can pretty much say as of right now I don't like anyone who is running. But I give Obama credit, he sure is connecting. His latest video that was posted, is going around like wildfire, and I have to admit its a pretty neat little video. I just can't wrap my fingers on this guy, his speeches are exceptional, but as people keep saying, "there is something about him." And I agree there is something about him, but what is I am not sure if I like or I don't. My gut says, somethings fishy.

Obama The Democrats Reagan

I read a really interesting article today. It is referring to the speech that Obama gave on his victory speech this past weekend in his Primary win in South Carolina. I have to admit I have "zero" clue who I am voting for in "Super Tuesday" where I will be voting. I am a registered Republican. I have a bit more in common in terms of beliefs with the republican party then democrats, however I am starting to find that my views are kind of split between the two. So I won't be able to vote for Obama even if I wanted to. However I have to say I have been very impressed by what Obama has been able to do against the Clinton's as well. I also have been one of many who have been very impressed by the man's ability to speak to a questioning society.

I am not old enough to know how the society reacted to Ronald Reagan during his eight years in office and his various campaigns. However from everything I have read, studied, and viewed on TV, I can see why this blogger, categorized Barack Obama as the Democrats Reagan. Read his article, its simple, but a good analysis of Obama and the way his speech's are taking Americans by storm.

Political Drawings of Republican Candidates

So I was going around Digg.com again, and I was checking out some of the latest news on the political front. Sure I could write about Obama's big win yesterday in South Carolina, which was huge. But I think everyone has heard enough about yesterday's primary. And if you haven't checked out Obama's victory speech you really should, one of the best speechs I have heard in a long, long time. But anyways I am a big fan of political satire, things like JibJab.com are some of my favorite things to search for online. Here is a beautiful cartoon depicting the republican candidates for President of the United States drawn by the very talented M. Wuerker from Politico.com.
